The following Catholic archdioceses in the United States received funds from the Department of Treasury’s PPP program intended for struggling businesses that were hit especially hard during the COVID-19 crisis; the scandal-plagued Archdioceses of New York and Washington received the most. And this money was allocated solely to pay employees of the Church. Would it have been better to let them and their families struggle and lose jobs? Joseph, you go too far in your anger toward bishops. Their employees should suffer because the bishops sinned?
Knowing what I know – in good conscience, I could not work for most of these bishops.
I understand that, but the issue is the money didn’t go to the bishops.
It could only be used for salaries and care of property. The government demands account and tracks how it was spent. If a bishop is dumb enough in the current situation to use the money for anything else he should go to jail.
There are those who do not know what we know and should they and their families suffer job loss and all that goes with it?
Even if they do I know, should their families be punished?
Not everyone has the experience or knowledge that some of us do.
And not to defend bishops in general but some are faithful, devout and God loving men.
